![]() ![]() I liked it better than the Dark Crusade campaign, but it's a different animal. It's more like playing a tactical arpg, maybe like playing diablo but with squads of guys who can take cover, level up, and get wargear. They're not Build A Base, Swarm With Units. Of course, realize that the DOW 2 campaigns are not the same as the DOW Dark Crusade or Soulstorm campaigns. But story campaign-wise, DOW2 & Chaos Rising is the true game, Retribution is more the quicker, smaller cash in. If you wanted just multi, just play retribution. This is if you're doing it for the story campaign. I'd recommend playing all three, of course, but I'd much more recommend Chaos Rising before Retribution and especially after playing DOW 2. It's also somewhat repetitive - you can play any of 5-6 factions, but you play them all in the same missions without any real choice of order. Retribution has events that happen after Chaos Rising, but it doesn't involve the same party of marines from DOW2 and Chaos Rising. Retribution is the one that is the "maybe" purchase. It also imports your save of gear and levels from DOW 2. It follows the same marines and continues the story. The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games ListĬhaos Rising is really the second part of the DOW 2 campaign.
